Fire Incidents in Jeonnam Province Before Lunar New Year Holiday Down 33% Compared to Last Year... Zero Casualties

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The number of fire incidents in Jeonnam Province during this year’s Lunar New Year holiday period decreased compared to the previous year, indicating that a generally safe holiday atmosphere was maintained.

According to the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Kim Joil) on the 24th, 28 fire incidents occurred from 6 p.m. on the 20th to 4 p.m. on the same day.

This represents a decrease of 14 cases, or about 33.3%, compared to the 42 fire incidents during last year’s Lunar New Year holiday period (from 6 p.m. on January 28 to 4 p.m. on February 1).

Property damage also decreased by 37.4%, from 139 million KRW last year to 87 million KRW.

Notably, there were no casualties from fires this year, showing a significant difference compared to three casualties last year (1 death, 2 injuries).

Major fires during the holiday period included a factory fire in Naju City (20th), a forest fire in Goheung County (21st), a warehouse fire in Muan County (22nd), and a vehicle fire in Haenam County (23rd).

Before the Lunar New Year holiday, Jeonnam Fire Headquarters implemented fire prevention measures, conducting fire safety inspections and safety consulting at fire-prone multi-use facilities, and strengthened preventive activities such as patrolling fire-vulnerable areas.

A Jeonnam Fire official stated, “Despite increased public movement and activities due to the recovery of daily life in the endemic era during this Lunar New Year holiday, fire incidents significantly decreased thanks to prevention activities and special alert duty. We will continue to do our best to ensure the safety of residents.”
