COVID-19 12,262 Confirmed Cases, 28,000 Fewer Than One Week Ago

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced on the 24th at midnight that 12,262 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the cumulative total to 30,021,018.


The number of new confirmed cases on this day is 3,035 more than the previous day (9,227), which included tests conducted on Lunar New Year's Day. However, compared to one week ago on the 17th (40,184 cases) and two weeks ago on the 10th (60,024 cases), the numbers have decreased by 27,922 and 47,762 respectively, clearly showing a downward trend.

In particular, the scale of new confirmed cases announced on this Tuesday is the lowest in 30 weeks since June 28 (9,889 cases). The decrease in COVID-19 testing during the holiday period also appears to have influenced this.


From the 18th to this day, the daily new confirmed cases for one week were 36,896 → 29,806 → 27,408 → 27,654 → 16,624 → 9,227 → 12,262, averaging 22,839 cases per day.


Among the new confirmed cases on this day, 31 were imported cases, which is 29 fewer than the previous day (60), about half. Of these, 22 cases (70.9%) were arrivals from China.


According to the CDCH, 193 short-term foreign visitors who arrived from China were tested at the airport the previous day, and 5 were confirmed positive. The positivity rate was 2.6%, down from 9.5% the day before.


The positivity rate among short-term foreign visitors arriving from China has been in single digits for 11 consecutive days.


Since the start of comprehensive PCR testing for arrivals from China on the 2nd, the cumulative positivity rate among short-term foreign visitors is 11.3% (690 confirmed cases out of 6,101 tested).


The number of confirmed cases by region on this day (including imported cases) is as follows: Gyeonggi 3,281, Seoul 2,127, Gyeongnam 898, Busan 793, Incheon 644, Gyeongbuk 574, Chungnam 548, Daegu 520, Jeonbuk 488, Jeonnam 451, Daejeon 403, Chungbuk 363, Gangwon 321, Gwangju 300, Ulsan 289, Jeju 156, Sejong 98, Quarantine 8.


The number of critically ill patients currently hospitalized as of midnight is 468, which is 18 more than the previous day (450).


As of 5 p.m. the previous day, the intensive care unit bed occupancy rate was 29.8% (467 out of 1,565 beds in use).


The number of deaths reported the previous day was 10, which is 16 fewer than the day before (26). The cumulative death toll is 33,245, with a cumulative fatality rate of 0.11%.
