Ministry of Foreign Affairs: "No Korean casualties reported in the recent mass shooting near LA"

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 23rd that there have been no reported Korean casualties so far from the mass shooting incident that occurred in the small city of Monterey Park in Los Angeles (LA) County, USA.


An official from the Ministry stated, "So far, there have been no reports of Korean nationals affected through our diplomatic missions or local Korean associations," adding, "We will continue efforts to gather additional information on the situation in cooperation with relevant LA authorities."


Earlier, on the 21st (local time), a mass shooting occurred at a dance studio in Monterey Park during the Lunar New Year event period, resulting in the deaths of five men and five women at the scene. Monterey Park is a small city with a large population of Chinese and other Asian residents.


The LA County Sheriff's Department announced that the suspect in the shooting is an Asian male named Hu Can Tran (72). Tran was reportedly found dead about 40 minutes away by car from Monterey Park.
