Sharing Results of Child-Friendly Survey 'Online Public Forum'...Presenting a 4-Year Strategy for Creating a Child-Friendly City
Proposing 49 Key Projects in 5 Areas Including Child Participation and 5 Key Directions for Higher-Level Certification of Child-Friendly City
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) held the final report meeting on the 'Gwanak-gu Child Status Survey and Child-Friendly City 4-Year (’23~’26) Creation Strategy Establishment Research Project' on the 18th, accelerating efforts to create a safe and happy 'Child-Friendly City' for children.
This project was conducted to establish a 4-year (’23~’26) child-friendly city creation strategy reflecting the characteristics of the district, based on UNICEF’s future policy directions, the results of the child status and child-friendly city survey conducted by the district in June, public opinion collection, and analysis of child-friendly projects implemented so far.
At the report meeting, based on the analysis so far, 49 key projects were derived in five areas: ▲play environment ▲child participation ▲child safety ▲green living spaces ▲child welfare, and it was proposed that regular implementation checks of the projects are necessary to ensure the effectiveness of child-related projects.
In addition, to enhance child participation and civic awareness according to UNICEF’s child-friendly city components, it was proposed to focus on ▲appointing children to the Child-Friendly City Promotion Committee ▲revising the Child-Friendly City ordinance to establish a child-friendly legal system ▲collecting opinions from preschool and young children ▲developing methods to gather opinions from children in the local community who are not part of child participation organizations ▲and conducting awareness surveys before and after child rights education.
The district plans to establish and implement the 4-year child-friendly city plan based on the materials discussed at the final report meeting.
Gwanak-gu was certified as a child-friendly city in 2020 and has been steadily carrying out child-friendly city projects. It aims for higher-level certification in 2024 by preparing active projects for child rights and implementing various projects for children in welfare blind spots.
Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, stated, “We will strive to reflect the key projects based on the 4-year child-friendly city promotion plan and creation goals in the district administration through cooperation among all departments,” and added, “We will work to make Gwanak a city where all children live well, where the four major rights of children are guaranteed, and where the basic spirit of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is practiced.”
