President Yoon and First Lady's Lunar New Year Video Message: "We Will Unite Our Strengths for a Leap Forward"

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 21st, President Yoon Seok-yeol, together with First Lady Kim Geon-hee, delivered a Lunar New Year greeting message to mark his first Lunar New Year holiday since taking office.


To celebrate the 2023 Year of the Black Rabbit Lunar New Year, President Yoon and First Lady Kim appeared in a video message released by the Presidential Office on the same day, greeting, "Dear citizens! Happy New Year."


In the video, President Yoon wore a light jade-colored durumagi, and First Lady Kim wore a white jeogori with a deep teal skirt.


President Yoon first stated, "This recent trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Davos was focused on the economy to enable our citizens and businesspeople to demonstrate their capabilities on the global stage," adding, "Although challenges persist both domestically and internationally, the government and private sector will unite to pool all efforts toward a new leap forward."


During the 6 nights and 8 days from the 14th to the 21st, President Yoon conducted economic diplomacy on his UAE and Switzerland tour. In the UAE, he secured investment commitments worth $30 billion (approximately 37 trillion KRW), and in Switzerland, through investment signing ceremonies and investor meetings, he achieved investment attraction and cooperation results totaling $800 million (about 1 trillion KRW). Notably, attending the World Economic Forum (WEF, Davos Forum), he met with global corporate CEOs to request investment in Korea.

He continued, "In the new year, we will take warmer and more attentive care of the vulnerable neighbors in our society."


He especially acknowledged, "There are those who fulfill their duties with sweat and passion even during the holiday season," expressing deep gratitude for "the hard work and dedication of workers, military personnel, police officers, and firefighters."


In this video, First Lady Kim also delivered a Lunar New Year greeting in her own voice. She said, "I extend my respect and gratitude to all those who brighten every corner of our society, and I hope this holiday will be one where we can embrace our marginalized neighbors more warmly."


Finally, President Yoon wished, "Dear citizens, I hope you share the hopes of the new year with your loved ones during this Lunar New Year holiday, and may this year be filled with health and happiness."
