Evaluation from January to October, Selection of Green Apartments
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced on the 20th that it will promote the selection of the 2023 ‘Excellent Green Apartments’ to reduce greenhouse gases and encourage voluntary eco-friendly living practices.
The city plans to select excellent green apartments at the end of the year by evaluating 140 apartment complexes with more than 100 households in the area from January to October, using indicators such as reduction rates of electricity, water, city gas, and food waste emissions, as well as the subscription rate to the Carbon Point System.
Ten locations will be selected based on the ranking of apartments with the highest greenhouse gas reductions, with incentives totaling 34 million KRW awarded: 6 million KRW for the top winner and 5 million KRW each for two excellent winners.
The incentives can be used for projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gases, such as planting trees to expand carbon sinks and replacing common facility lighting in apartments with high-efficiency LED lighting equipment.
Meanwhile, last year, Suncheon City also selected 10 excellent green apartments that reduced greenhouse gases and provided a total of 34 million KRW in incentives to support various carbon reduction projects.
A representative from Suncheon City’s Climate Energy Division stated, “Voluntary and active participation of citizens is crucial to achieving Suncheon City’s 2050 carbon neutrality,” adding, “We hope citizens will take the lead in practicing eco-friendly living suitable for Suncheon, the ecological capital of Korea, by subscribing to the Carbon Point System and more.”
