100 Billion Won Invested to Fully Improve Living Conditions in Mundong Living Area
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] On the 20th, Busan Gijang-gun announced that the Mundong Living Area in Gijang-gun was selected as the final target site for the ‘Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project,’ a public contest project by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
This contest was held according to the public contest plan announced by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries in September last year, with 124 applications from 11 cities and provinces nationwide, and 65 final sites were selected. In Busan, the Mundong Living Area in Gijang-gun was the only one selected.
Gijang-gun was selected in the ‘Fishing Village Living Platform Creation’ category, one of the two project types, and according to the selection of the target site, from 2023 to 2026, a total project cost of 10 billion KRW, including 7 billion KRW in national funds and 3 billion KRW in local funds, will be invested to carry out fishing village improvement projects around Jungdong Port.
Specifically, under the project vision of ‘Sea Garden of Recovery and Coexistence, Mundong,’ various projects will be carried out to attract related populations, such as reorganizing tourism infrastructure utilizing the scenic coastal landscape of Mundong Village, establishing a fishing village station to provide living services including medical care, welfare, education, and culture, as well as fishing village experience programs and startup support.
In particular, to improve living conditions and create new jobs, an anchor organization (private support organization) with extensive experience in urban regeneration projects will participate, residing in the fishing village area and working together with local residents to build a better fishing village life and economic ecosystem.
County Governor Jeong Jong-bok said, “We expect dynamic changes in the living and economic conditions of the Mundong Living Area fishing village through this Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project,” and added, “We will carry out the project steadily over the next four years to breathe new vitality into the fishing village.”
The Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project is a project reflected in the government’s top 110 national tasks, investing a total of 30 trillion KRW over five years in 300 sites nationwide to improve the living and economic environment of underdeveloped fishing villages and expand fishing village safety infrastructure, aiming to create a new foundation for change in fishing villages.
