[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Oh Hwanju] Jeollanam-do Muan-gun (Governor Kim San) announced on the 20th the opening of Muan 1 Public Parking Lot, a first-floor, two-level facility consisting of 5 large bus spaces and 115 passenger car spaces, located in Seongdong-ri, Muan-eup.

In 2007, a 75-space, three-level parking tower called Nakji-gol was built in Nakji Alley, Muan-eup, but due to the lack of a bus parking lot, large buses had difficulty entering, making it hard for group tourists to visit.

In response, the Nakji Alley Merchants Association and merchants in the center of Muan-eup requested additional parking space. In 2019, a plan for a large bus parking lot around Nakji Alley was prepared, and after a public hearing with residents, the current site at 885-5 Seongdong-ri, Muan-eup was selected as the project site.

After land acquisition in February 2020 and detailed design in December 2021, construction began last year and was completed in December of the same year. The total project cost was 8.941 billion KRW (including 1.7 billion KRW in national funds).

With the opening of Muan 1 Public Parking Lot, three large parking lots are now available in the center of Muan-eup and Nakji Alley: the existing Nakji-gol Parking Tower, the urban regeneration parking lot completed last November, and the new facility, securing a total of 246 parking spaces (238 passenger car spaces and 8 bus spaces).

Especially, including nearby small parking lots, the total number of spaces increases to 300.

This opening is expected to improve accessibility to Nakji Alley and the central shopping district and significantly enhance vehicle flow on nearby roads.

At the opening ceremony, Governor Kim San said, “Muan 1 Public Parking Lot, along with Nakji-gol Parking Tower and the urban regeneration parking lot, is expected to greatly contribute to revitalizing the Muan-eup commercial district. In November, we also plan to hold the 1st Muan Nakji Festival in Nakji Alley, and we will continue our efforts to revitalize the Muan-eup commercial district.”
