A Total of 2700㎡ Destroyed
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] A fire in Guryong Village, Gaepo-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, burned down 60 houses and left 62 displaced residents. Fire authorities are currently controlling the major flames and cleaning up the remaining embers.
The fire broke out around 6:27 a.m. on the 20th in District 4 of Guryong Village and reportedly spread to the surrounding area. At 7:01 a.m., a report was received that the fire had spread to the entrance of District 5.
At 7:26 a.m., the fire department issued a Level 2 response and deployed personnel from nearby fire stations along with 10 firefighting helicopters from Gyeonggi Province and the Korea Forest Service. At 9:16 a.m., as the fire's spread decreased, the response was downgraded to Level 1.
Authorities have confirmed that approximately 60 houses, totaling 2,700㎡, were destroyed by the fire, and 62 displaced residents emerged from 44 households. A total of 517 firefighting and police personnel, 68 pieces of equipment, and 300 personnel from the Gangnam District Office were mobilized.
A fire official explained during the fifth briefing, "It is estimated that the fire started near District 4," adding, "The fire spread due to combustible plywood." Fire authorities will continue search operations to accurately assess casualties.
Meanwhile, the displaced residents plan to temporarily stay at four hotels located in Gangnam-gu.
