[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Starting this year, support benefits for families with two or more children residing in Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City will be increased.
Nam-gu announced on the 20th that incentives for families with two or more children will be expanded following the full revision of the ordinance on childbirth encouragement and support for multi-child families.
The revised ordinance was actively discussed following its proposal by the Nam-gu Council in November last year, and after being approved by the council, it was promulgated on December 28 of the same year, thus taking practical effect from this year.
The key point of the revised ordinance is that the support scope for multi-child families to encourage childbirth has changed from families with three or more children to those with two or more children.
Additionally, families raising two or more children through birth or adoption can receive support benefits if there is a child aged 13 or younger among the household members.
Accordingly, from this year, the benefits provided to multi-child families with a second or subsequent child residing in the district will significantly increase.
First, the admission fee for the Gossaum Nori Video Experience Center, which was previously provided free of charge only to families with three or more children, will now be fully waived, and when attending various programs held at the Nam-gu Life Culture Center, 50% of the tuition fee will be discounted.
Also, when using the Nam-gu Youth Training Center facilities, 20% of the usage fee will be discounted, and the annual membership fee of 20,000 KRW for the Toy Library will be waived.
Furthermore, a 30% discount on usage fees will be provided for public sports facilities operated by the district office, including the Nam-gu Multipurpose Gymnasium, Bongseon Tennis Court, and Seungchon Gateball Court.
In addition, Nam-gu is making various efforts to discover new areas for support within childbirth encouragement policies promoted by each department to provide more benefits to multi-child families.
A Nam-gu official stated, “Recognizing the low birthrate issue as a shared social responsibility and having revised related ordinances to overcome this problem, we will do our best to expand the childbirth encouragement atmosphere in the local community.”
