Chungnam, Establishment of Basic Plan for Demolition and Utilization of Former Jungbu Logistics Center

[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province is exploring a plan to demolish the former Jungbu Agricultural and Livestock Logistics Center (Jungbu Logistics Center), construct and sell apartments, and use the proceeds to build public facilities.

On the 20th, the province announced that it held a kickoff meeting the previous day for a research project titled ‘Feasibility Study and Basic Plan Establishment for Alternative Facilities to the Jungbu Logistics Center.’

The project will analyze the social and economic environment and development conditions around the Jungbu Logistics Center, and conduct a resident survey to establish a basic plan for new cultural and sports facilities to be created after demolition.

Additionally, it will analyze project costs by phase and year, estimate facility maintenance costs after construction, and prepare for the local finance investment review by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

Prior to the project kickoff, the province announced in April last year a plan to completely demolish the Jungbu Logistics Center and build and sell apartments on the site.

The proceeds from apartment sales are intended to be used for constructing ‘Chungnam-type Happier Housing (Kkumbichae)’ and cultural and sports facilities.

The province expects that future construction and operating costs can be covered by the apartment sales revenue as well as income generated from the sale of local food markets and commercial convenience facilities.

The Jungbu Logistics Center has been closed for over 10 years due to capital erosion. Opened in September 1999, the center operated on a 72,518㎡ site with four buildings. However, it fell into capital erosion by the end of 2003 and eventually ceased operations in 2010.

Lee Geon-ho, Director of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the province, said, "We will transform the long-neglected Jungbu Logistics Center into a space that revitalizes the region and promotes residents’ convenience."
