Byeollyang Yongdu Village Secures Total Project Cost of 10 Billion Won
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced on the 19th that the Yongdu Harbor area in Byeollyang-myeon was selected in the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project competition.
The Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project is a program aimed at developing fishing villages as economic hubs and establishing a system that can deliver customized living services such as welfare and culture essential to fishing village areas.
Yongdu Harbor, adjacent to Suncheon Bay National Garden and Suncheon Bay Wetland, which attract 5 million visitors annually, is widely known nationwide as a specialty area for Saegomak and Garimat clams, but it has lacked basic infrastructure and content.
Accordingly, Suncheon City formed a fishing village anchor organization and organized and operated a local council with residents around Yongdu Harbor to revitalize the area into an attractive space. They discovered projects such as the fishing village experience school, Yongdu complex station, fishing port access road improvement project, and seafood transportation improvement project, applied for the competition, and achieved the great success of being selected as a target site this year.
The budget for the Byeollyang-myeon Yongdu Harbor Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project is a total of 10 billion KRW (7 billion KRW national funds, 900 million KRW provincial funds, 2.1 billion KRW city funds) and will be implemented over four years from 2023 to 2026.
A Suncheon City official stated, "The selection of the Byeollyang-myeon Yongdu Harbor area for the Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project is expected to revitalize Yongdu Harbor, which has lacked village-level living services, and transform it into a new tourist attraction."
