Last Year ELS Issuance Amount 57.7125 Trillion Won... 20% Decrease Compared to Previous Year

[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] The Korea Securities Depository announced on the 19th that the total issuance amount of ELS last year was 57.7215 trillion KRW, a 20% decrease compared to the previous year. The redemption amount was recorded at 44.7 trillion KRW, a 41.3% decrease from the previous year due to the sluggish global stock market.

By issuance type, public offerings accounted for 93.4% (53.9166 trillion KRW) of the total ELS, while private placements accounted for 6.6% (3.8049 trillion KRW). The amount of public offerings decreased by 16.8% compared to the previous year (64.7652 trillion KRW), and private placements decreased by 48.7% compared to last year (7.4124 trillion KRW).

By underlying asset, index-linked ELS accounted for 53.7% with 31.0153 trillion KRW, and ELS based on domestic individual stocks amounted to 20.7067 trillion KRW, representing 35.9%.

The issuance amounts of ELS based on overseas indices such as S&P 500, Euro Stoxx 50, HSCEI, Nikkei 225, and HSI were 25.2544 trillion KRW, 24.844 trillion KRW, 5.466 trillion KRW, 4.3693 trillion KRW, and 0.0103 trillion KRW respectively, all showing a decline compared to the previous year. The issuance amount of ELS based on the domestic index KOSPI 200 was 21.6612 trillion KRW, also down from the previous year.

By issuing company, Mirae Asset Securities issued the largest amount of ELS last year, totaling 7.0394 trillion KRW. The combined issuance amount of the top five companies, including Mirae Asset Securities, Meritz Securities, Korea Investment & Securities, KB Securities, and NH Investment & Securities, was 28.1021 trillion KRW, accounting for 48.7% of the total ELS issuance.

By redemption type, maturity redemptions accounted for 21.1704 trillion KRW, representing 47.3% of the total redemption amount, while early redemptions and mid-term redemptions accounted for 19.0689 trillion KRW and 4.4518 trillion KRW, respectively, representing 42.7% and 10%. The outstanding balance of unredeemed issuances as of the end of this year was 70.9059 trillion KRW, a 23% increase compared to the previous year (57.6284 trillion KRW).
