The hometown love donation system allows individuals to donate to their hometown or a local government of their choice, excluding their place of residence, and receive tax deductions and thank-you gifts such as local agricultural and specialty products worth up to 30% of the donation amount.
Donations can be made online (Hometown Love e-um) or offline (NH NongHyup Bank).
The donated funds are pooled into a fund according to the Hometown Love Donation Act and used for the purpose of enhancing residents' welfare, such as supporting socially vulnerable groups, fostering and protecting youth, promoting culture, arts, and health, and revitalizing local communities.
Jung In-hwa, Mayor of Gwangyang City, said, “Since the hometown love donation system was implemented to respond to local extinction, the valuable donations from donors will greatly contribute to expanding local finances and revitalizing the regional economy.”
Meanwhile, as it is the first year of implementation, the city plans to continuously promote the hometown love donation system to raise awareness and gain understanding and sympathy for the system's purpose. In addition, administrative efforts will be focused on developing various and high-quality thank-you gifts and discovering fund projects that can enhance donors' pride.
