Smart Farm Innovation Valley Hub, Establishment of Horticulture Complex and Aquaculture Complex
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) recently announced plans to expand a large-scale smart farm complex including smart livestock and smart aquaculture clusters near the recently completed Smart Farm Innovation Valley.
The Smart Farm Innovation Valley serves as a hub leading the future of agriculture by fostering young talent in smart agriculture and innovating data-based smart agricultural technologies. It is equipped with core facilities such as a youth incubation practice greenhouse, youth rental greenhouses, and a big data center on a 33.35ha (100,000 pyeong) site, and has entered full-scale operation.
Youth startup education is specialized training focused on smart farms, selecting 52 participants annually. Graduates of the program can directly manage rental greenhouses for three years.

The greatest advantage of the Goheung Innovation Valley lies in its scalability by utilizing the large-scale state-owned land of the Goheungman reclaimed land. The county plans to discover linked projects such as creating agricultural startup complexes so that young farmers who have completed education or whose rental period has ended can stably start farming near the Innovation Valley.
Additionally, 25 smart livestock barns (with a capacity to raise 2,500 Korean cattle) will be concentrated in the Shinyang district of the Goheungman reclaimed land. A smart livestock ICT pilot complex equipped with livestock manure joint resource facilities and quarantine facilities will be attracted to lead smart farming in the livestock sector.
In the smart fisheries sector, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs included a 68ha aquaculture complex in the "Comprehensive Plan for Agricultural and Fishery Use of Reclaimed Land" announced in 2019, and an eco-friendly smart aquaculture cluster is being prepared in the Yongdong district of the Goheungman reclaimed land.
Goheung-gun expects to become a prominent smart farm diffusion hub by expanding into a large complex of 500,000 to 600,000 pyeong encompassing smart agriculture, smart livestock, and smart fisheries centered on the Smart Farm Innovation Valley.
Gong Young-min, Governor of Goheung-gun, stated, “By establishing a large-scale advanced smart farm valley for agriculture, livestock, and fisheries, we will nurture over 1,000 young people for employment and startup farming, and by becoming an export forward base, the regional economy will be revitalized.”
