Hwang Ju-ho, President of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, "Best Effort for Timely Construction of New Nuclear Power Plant in Poland"

[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Hwang Ju-ho, President of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), said on the 18th (local time), "We will do our best to contribute to Poland's low-carbon energy supply by timely constructing new nuclear power plants in Poland."

President Hwang made this remark while delivering a keynote presentation on European energy self-sufficiency at a high-level panel discussion held at the Polish Pavilion in Davos, Switzerland.

KHNP, Polish private power company ZE PAK, and state-owned Polish Power Company (PGE) signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) last October to jointly promote the construction of two nuclear reactors at the local Pomorzany nuclear power plant. This is a private project conducted separately from the Polish government's six-reactor construction project with the U.S. company Westinghouse. According to the prior LOI, KHNP plans to conduct a detailed feasibility study within this year.

This event was led by the Polish government on the occasion of attending the Davos Forum. Polish President Andrzej Duda delivered the keynote speech, and panelists included Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Assets Jacek Sasin, Wojciech D?browski, President of the Polish state-owned power company PGE, and Maciej St?c, Director of the Polish private power company ZE PAK. From the Korean side, Ahn Deok-geun, Director General for Trade Negotiations at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and President Hwang attended.

Meanwhile, President Hwang is scheduled to visit the Czech Republic immediately after the Davos Forum. The Czech Republic has confirmed plans to construct one additional new nuclear reactor and plans to select a project operator within next year. KHNP, France’s state-owned company EDF, and the U.S. company Westinghouse are competing for the project. During a 2-day, 1-night schedule, he plans to meet with the Czech government and ordering parties, visit the planned site for the new nuclear reactor, and discuss cooperation plans with key local figures.
