[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Prime Minister Han Duck-soo announced on the 19th that “approximately 39 trillion won of market funds will be supported to ensure smooth management for small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners before and after the holidays.”
At the government-related ministers' meeting on national issues held that day, Prime Minister Han stated, “We will do our best so that the people can have a happy Lunar New Year holiday.” He added that through the support of market funds, efforts will be made to ensure that unpaid wages are paid and business contract payments are made before the Lunar New Year.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Han said, “We will increase the supply scale of major Lunar New Year seasonal products to the largest ever and also support discounts on agricultural, livestock, and fishery products.” He added, “Measures such as electricity bill discounts and increases in energy voucher rates have also been implemented to reduce the burden on vulnerable groups.”

He conveyed that to alleviate inconveniences during the holiday travel rush, public transportation will be increased and highway tolls will be waived.
Prime Minister Han said, “During the holiday, the Central Disaster and Safety Situation Room will operate 24 hours a day, and special fire alert duties and emergency medical systems will be operated without disruption.” He urged, “Each ministry should pay special attention in their respective areas to ensure that the public can spend a comfortable and safe Lunar New Year holiday.”
He also mentioned the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ smart port technology industry development strategy established at the government-related ministers' meeting on national issues that day. Prime Minister Han stated, “While our shipbuilding industry competitiveness is world-class, the capabilities in the port industry sector are insufficient.”
He continued, “The government will actively promote R&D investment expansion and foster related companies to achieve the status of a world-class port technology country by 2030. Through this, we will expand our entry into the global port market and strengthen our position as a global port powerhouse.”
Regarding the ‘Basic Plan for Artists’ Welfare Policy,’ he said, “Although art enriches our society, welfare is somewhat lacking,” and added, “I hope this plan will help artists freely carry out their creative activities.”
