CJ CheilJedang and HDC Hyundai EP's joint venture, CJ HDC Biosol, held a completion ceremony for its biodegradable material compounding factory in the Gwanghyewon Local Industrial Complex in Jincheon, Chungbuk, and officially began production, the company announced on the 19th.

Biosol is a joint venture established in February last year by CJ CheilJedang, which possesses top-tier microbial fermentation and purification technology, and HDC Hyundai EP, the number one polymer compounding company in Korea. The factory was built with an investment of 24 billion KRW and covers a total floor area of 12,060㎡. Utilizing various materials including aPHA (marine biodegradable), which CJ CheilJedang is the only company in the world to mass-produce commercially, as well as PLA (industrial biodegradable), PBAT (soil biodegradable), and cellulose, the factory can produce up to 11,000 tons annually of biodegradable compounding materials.

Biosol plans to take the lead in and expand the eco-friendly material compounding market based at the Jincheon factory. To this end, it intends to develop and produce biodegradable material products applicable to various fields, from materials used closely in daily life such as packaging for household goods and cosmetic containers to automotive parts materials.

Choi Eun-seok, CEO of CJ CheilJedang, said, "If CJ CheilJedang and HDC Hyundai EP collaborate to develop eco-friendly material applications and expand into the global market through Biosol's excellent manufacturing capabilities, we will be able to contribute to creating a sustainable ecosystem."
