CU Launches Dokdo Soju Zero Sugar... Lower Calories and Alcohol Content

On the 19th, CU announced that it will sell ‘40240 Dokdo Soju Zero Sugar’ in line with the growing trend of demand for unsweetened beverages.

40240 Dokdo Soju is a distilled soju made using mineral concentrate from deep-sea water extracted 1,500 meters below the sea near Ulleungdo. It is produced by fermenting freshly milled rice and then using vacuum distillation, resulting in a subtle aroma and smooth refreshing taste. The product name 40240 is the postal code of Dokdo. Dokdo Soju Zero Sugar has reduced calories compared to the original product by removing sugars, and its alcohol content has been lowered from 17.3% to 17%.

According to CU, sales of unsweetened alcoholic beverages have steadily increased since their introduction in September last year, with month-over-month sales growth rates of 68.6% in October, 78.3% in November, and 89.7% in December. Notably, the proportion of female buyers was 15 percentage points higher than that of regular alcoholic beverages, and the sales share of the 20s and 30s age group reached 60%.

A BGF Retail official said, “Reflecting the continuous growth of the unsweetened beverage market, CU is launching a zero sugar version of its differentiated soju, Dokdo Soju,” adding, “As interest in health management has increased across all generations since COVID-19, we will continue to introduce low-food products that reflect this trend.”
