Shinan-gun, High-Speed Ferry 'First Angel' First Voyage

Relieving Inconveniences for Residents of Ha-ui, Sin-ui, and Jangsan-myeon Islands

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Jeonnam Sinan-gun (Governor Park Woo-ryang) announced on the 18th that the high-speed ferry First Angel has begun its inaugural operation since the 17th in the island areas of Ha-ui, Sinui, and Jangsan-myeon.

Sinan-gun held a high-speed ferry inauguration ceremony on the 18th at the Ungok pier in Ha-ui-myeon, hosted by Sinjin Shipping, to resolve the maritime transportation inconvenience of Ha-ui residents.

Since Angel operated by Joyang Transport suspended service in June last year, due to the absence of license applicants to operate as a replacement, Sinan-gun inevitably invited bids for the priority negotiation candidate for the maritime passenger transport business as a private transfer subsidy project and confirmed Sinjin Shipping as the operator.

The newly launched First Angel is a 170-ton vessel capable of carrying 200 passengers, with a maximum speed of 26 knots. It takes about 70 minutes from Mokpo via Jangsan Bukgang to Ha-ui Ungok and Sinui Sangtaeseori, and after the docking facilities at Dochodo Uido pier are completed, it will call at Dochodo Uido as well.

Governor Park Woo-ryang said, “We will provide a stable maritime transportation system and ensure that island residents, who have experienced many inconveniences, can continuously enjoy a basic life that allows them to interact with the mainland anytime.” He added, “We will continue to focus on improving the welfare and living conditions of island residents to make Sinan a place where no one wants to leave and everyone wants to live.”
