Lee Su-hee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, Visits Construction Site on the 17th to Urge Korea Expressway Corporation to Officially Name the Bridge ‘Godeok Bridge’
Since November Last Year, Launched a ‘50,000 Resident Signature Campaign’ to Secure the Name Godeok Bridge
Resident Signatures Surpass 72,000, Exceeding the Goal by 144%, Expressing Residents’ Strong Wishes
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Su-hee) announced on the 18th that on the 17th, they met with the project manager and other construction officials from Korea Expressway Corporation to urge the official naming of the (tentative name) Godeok Bridge.
Since November last year, the district has launched a signature campaign to collect 50,000 resident signatures to officially name the Han River bridge connecting Godeok-dong and Guri City as ‘Godeok Bridge.’ As a result, the number of resident signatures exceeded 72,000, surpassing the goal by 144%, demonstrating the residents’ strong will and desire to secure the name.
During her visit to the (tentative name) Godeok Bridge construction site, Mayor Lee Su-hee carefully checked the progress of the construction and expressed to Korea Expressway Corporation that the name of the new Han River crossing bridge must be officially designated as ‘Godeok Bridge’ and the new interchange as ‘Godeok Interchange.’ She pledged to concentrate all administrative efforts and respond actively to ensure this.
Gangdong-gu has actively conveyed to relevant agencies such as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Korea Expressway Corporation, and Seoul City the justification for naming the bridge ‘Godeok Bridge,’ citing reasons including ▲the use of the tentative name ‘Godeok Bridge’ since the early stages of construction ▲the presence of ‘Guri Amsa Bridge’ within 2 km of the (tentative) Godeok Bridge, which could cause confusion for users ▲Godeok-dong in Gangdong-gu being the starting point of the bridge design ▲the construction site passing through an urban area, causing residents to endure significant inconvenience and damage throughout the construction period while actively cooperating with national policies ▲and Godeok-dong’s emergence as a central area in the eastern metropolitan region. Through the recent meeting with on-site officials, the necessity of officially naming the bridge was further solidified.
