Resignation of Jin Jae-seon, Former 3rd Deputy Chief of Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, in 'NIS Comment Investigation'

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Jin Jae-seon, a prosecutor at Daegu High Prosecutors' Office who served as the 3rd Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office at the end of the Moon Jae-in administration (age 49, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 30), recently submitted his resignation to the Ministry of Justice, confirmed on the 18th.

Prosecutor Jin began his career in 2004 at the Jeonju District Prosecutors' Office and has held key positions including Head of the Public Security Division 2 at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, Director of the Criminal Planning Division, Director of the Prosecutors' Office, and Head of the Policy Planning Unit at the Ministry of Justice. In 2013, he built ties with President Yoon Seok-youl, who was then the investigation team leader during the 'National Intelligence Service Comment Scandal,' and was once considered part of the 'Yoon Seok-youl faction.' However, during the clash between the Ministry of Justice and the prosecution starting with the 'Cho Kuk investigation,' he worked at the Ministry of Justice, assisting then-Minister Choo Mi-ae, which led to a distancing from President Yoon.

Afterwards, Prosecutor Jin was promoted to the 3rd Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, where he led the initial investigations into the 'Allegations of Soliciting Complaints' and the 'Ministry of Gender Equality and Family's Presidential Election Pledge Development Allegations.' During the 'Complete Removal of Prosecutorial Investigation Rights (Geomsu Wanbak)' phase last year, he voiced opposition to the passage of the bill alongside then-Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office Chief Lee Jung-soo. In June of last year, following the appointment of Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon, he was relegated to a less influential position as a prosecutor at the Daegu High Prosecutors' Office in a personnel reshuffle.
