[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City will establish the National Garden in the Norubeol area of Seo-gu and the Gyejoksan Natural Recreation Forest in the Jangdong Forest Bathing Area.
On the 18th, the city announced plans for the Norubeol National Garden and Gyejoksan Natural Recreation Forest through a city briefing.
According to the city, the Norubeol National Garden will be developed on a scale of 1.23 million square meters (370,000 pyeong) in Norubeol with a project cost of 130 billion KRW.
The Norubeol Garden will consist of six themed gardens reflecting Daejeon’s image as a science city, along with a garden culture center and support facilities such as management buildings.
The themed gardens will include a four-season theme forest, metasequoia forest, firefly habitat garden, forest playground, picnic yard, Norusan trail, and a five-sense garden, linking ecological resources to enable various experiential activities.
Earlier, the city completed a feasibility study and basic plan for the Norubeol Garden project last year. This year, it will proceed with the development plan and detailed design services to establish detailed garden facility plans.
The Gyejoksan Natural Recreation Forest will be developed on a scale of 700,000 square meters (210,000 pyeong) in the existing Jangdong Forest Bathing Area. This project will invest a total budget of 29.1 billion KRW to expand the Jangdong Forest Bathing Area in Daedeok-gu into a natural recreation forest.
The Gyejoksan Natural Recreation Forest will be developed with three themes: ▲ forest experience and cultural zone ▲ forest recreation and lodging zone ▲ conservation zone, creating a space for forest healing and relaxation.
In particular, this recreation forest will be developed as a forest recreation facility linked with the nearby Jangdong Cultural Park and Daecheongho Obaekri-gil trail.
Earlier, the city received designation as a public natural recreation forest from the Korea Forest Service in December last year, aiming to complete the project by 2026.
Lee Jang-woo, Mayor of Daejeon, said, “By utilizing the forest ecological resources of Norubeol, we will create the nation’s best premium garden where forest, river, and fields harmonize, and with the Gyejoksan Natural Recreation Forest, Daejeon will become the leading forest welfare and recreation hub city in the central region.” He added, “The city will continue to do its best to ensure that local tourists remember Daejeon as a city they want to visit again.”
