BPA and Other Public Institutions Open First Smart Farm Utilizing Public Property

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Duyul] On the 17th, Busan Port Authority (BPA) and nine public institutions in the Busan area held an opening ceremony for the ‘BEF Smart Farm 7th Branch,’ supported by the Busan Embracement Fund for Economic Vitalization (BEF).


BEF is an abbreviation for Busan Embracement Fund for Economic Vitalization, a fund established by nine public institutions in the Busan area to foster the local industrial ecosystem and support sustainable growth.


The participating institutions in the fund include Korea Technology Finance Corporation, Busan Urban Corporation, Busan Port Authority, Korea Housing & Urban Guarantee Corporation, Korea Southern Power, Korea Securities Depository, Korea Asset Management Corporation, Korea Housing Finance Corporation, and Korea Ocean Business Corporation.


The BEF Smart Farm 7th Branch is an urban smart farm salad cafe that installs smart farm facilities in the former ‘Busan Senior Counseling Center,’ a public property owned by Busan City, producing and selling leafy vegetables such as romaine lettuce directly on site.


BPA and the nine public institutions in the Busan area expect to expand the spread of smart agriculture within the local community through BEF, promoting production and distribution structures based on ESG innovative growth methods.

Lee Dong-gyu, CEO of Cheongnyeon Jingu, who operates the 7th branch, said, “We plan to fill jobs related to smart farm operation and crop cultivation targeting vulnerable groups such as seniors aged 60 and over in the region,” adding, “We are pleased to contribute to regional coexistence through job creation in the smart farm business with BEF support.”


Kang Jun-seok, President of BPA, said, “We will continue to support public efforts so that BEF can sustainably lead not only job creation across various age groups but also the revitalization of the local economy.”


BPA and the nine public institutions in the Busan area have established the BEF fund and have been carrying out various projects such as ▲financial support according to corporate growth stages ▲crowdfunding support ▲management consulting ▲discovery and nurturing programs for future entrepreneurs ▲accelerating ▲online and offline sales channel support ▲smart farm installation support ▲overseas expansion support.
