"Always Thinking of Daegu, Wanting to Help the Struggling Hometown People"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-sun] Yang Jun-hyuk (54), chairman of the Baseball Foundation, donated 5 million won to Daegu City as hometown love donation on the 18th.
Daegu City announced on the 18th that with the full implementation of the 'Hometown Love Donation System' this year, Chairman Yang, a baseball player from Daegu who is also active in various fields including broadcasting appearances, participated in the donation.
Yang Jun-hyuk, the first major donor in Daegu City, has been serving as a promotional ambassador for Daegu City since 2011. He has always shown interest in the development of Daegu and actively participated in events related to Daegu.
Chairman Yang said, "I have always thought about my hometown Daegu and hoped that Daegu would become better. I am very happy to be able to express my feelings even a little through the Hometown Love Donation System," adding, "I hope the donation will be meaningfully used in necessary areas such as supporting local youth and vulnerable groups."
The Hometown Love Donation System allows donations to a 'second hometown' established through relationships such as study, work, or travel rather than the registered address. Local governments use the donations for residents' welfare improvement, and donors receive tax deductions and return gifts.
The maximum individual donation amount is 5 million won per year. For a 5 million won donation, donors can receive a tax deduction of up to 908,000 won (full deduction up to 100,000 won, 16.5% on the amount exceeding 100,000 won) and return gifts worth up to 1.5 million won (30% of the donation).
Chairman Yang plans to use the return gifts worth about 1.5 million won received from the donation to operate the Mentori Baseball Team, composed of baseball dreamers from multicultural families and low-income households in the future.
