Gold up 20.3%P, Na and An both decline

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] In a survey of support for party leadership candidates among People Power Party supporters, Representative Kim Ki-hyun emerged as the most favored with 35.5%. This marks a sharp increase of 20.3 percentage points compared to the survey conducted three weeks ago. Former Representative Na Kyung-won recorded 21.6%, placing second.

On the 18th, Newsis commissioned the public opinion research firms Kukmin Research Group and Ace Research to conduct a survey from the 14th to the 16th among 1,002 men and women nationwide aged 18 and older. Among 397 ruling party supporters, the response rate for 'suitability for People Power Party leader' showed Representative Kim receiving 35.5% support.

Following him were former Representative Na with 21.6%, Representative Ahn Cheol-soo with 19.9%, former Representative Yoo Seung-min with 7.4%, former leader Hwang Kyo-ahn with 3.7%, Representative Cho Kyung-tae with 2.5%, and Representative Yoon Sang-hyun with 1.5%.

While Representative Kim has shown a steady upward trend, former Representative Na experienced a significant drop in this survey. Representative Ahn, who had held second place for about a month, fell to third. Compared to the previous survey (December 27-29 last year), Representative Kim surged by 20.3 percentage points, whereas former Representative Na declined by 9.2 percentage points.

Among People Power Party supporters who positively evaluate government performance, numbering 340, Representative Kim's support rate was even higher at 40.5%. He was followed by Representative Ahn at 20.8%, former Representative Na at 20.5%, and former leader Hwang Kyo-ahn at 4.3%.

The research firms analyzed that the withdrawal of Representative Kwon Seong-dong from the race and the exclusion of Floor Leader Joo Ho-young from the same candidate pool likely influenced the increase in Representative Kim's support rate.

The margin of error for this survey is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. The survey was conducted using a 100% wireless automated response system (ARS) with RDD methodology, and the response rate was 1.2%.
