On the 18th at around 9 a.m., the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office sent 30 to 40 investigators to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency to conduct a search and seizure. The investigators are securing related evidence such as computers and CCTV from several offices related to the Itaewon disaster, including the office of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Chief.
The prosecution had previously conducted search and seizures at 10 locations, including Yongsan Police Station, Yongsan District Office, Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, and the National Police Agency, on the 10th.
Having taken over the police investigation, the prosecution is expected to continue identifying higher-level responsibilities through additional reinforcement investigations. The police special investigation headquarters (Special Investigation Unit) handed over a total of 23 people, including Park Hee-young (62), Yongsan District Mayor, and former Chief Lee, to the prosecution on charges such as professional negligence resulting in death or injury.
