The Only Domestic Collaboration Platform with the Netherlands World Horti Center
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-sun] The only Dutch smart farm exchange and cooperation platform in Korea is located in Gyeongbuk.
On the 18th, Gyeongbuk Province held an opening ceremony for the World Horti Center Korea Office, the Korean platform of the Netherlands' World Horti Center, at Gyeongbuk National University Sangju Campus.
The World Horti Center Korea Office is a follow-up implementation project of the business agreement signed in 2021 among Gyeongbuk Province, World Horti Center, Gyeongbuk National University, and Lentiz Education Group.
Last September, Governor Lee Cheol-woo visited the Netherlands to discuss specific plans, and the office opened in January this year.
This is the only World Horti Center exchange and cooperation platform in Korea, established in Gyeongbuk Province to promote the spread and technological advancement of smart farms between Korea and the Netherlands.
About 20 people attended the opening ceremony, including Governor Lee Cheol-woo, Vice President Lee In-jung of Gyeongbuk National University, Puck van Holstein, CEO of the Netherlands World Horti Center, Oscar Niezen, Senior Advisor of Lentiz Education Group, Mayor Kang Young-seok of Sangju City, Chairman Bae Han-cheol of the Provincial Council, and Nam Young-sook, Chairwoman of the Agriculture and Fisheries Committee of the Provincial Council.
At the event, they discussed mutual cooperation plans regarding smart agriculture technology research, education, and professional workforce development between Korea and the Netherlands.
After the opening ceremony, with the support of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Korea, an international symposium was held at the Sangju Smart Farm Innovation Valley, featuring a special lecture on the prospects and vision of the global horticulture industry with young farmers.
The World Horti Center is a leading institution with an innovative platform in smart agriculture-related business, education, and research, while Lentiz Education Group is an agricultural specialized education institution consisting of 14 secondary and vocational schools.
Governor Lee Cheol-woo of Gyeongbuk Province said, “If the Netherlands has the World Horti Center, our country has the Smart Farm Innovation Valley,” adding, “I hope this Korea Office will serve as an intermediary to integrate the Netherlands' excellent smart farm technology and educational programs into the Innovation Valley, and that the four institutions will cooperate to enable mutual development of the horticulture industry in both countries.”
