Why Did Ulsan Mayor Kim Du-gyeom, Pohang Mayor Lee Gang-deok, and Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-young Unite?

Mutual Donations of Hometown Love Funds Between Cities in the Haeoreum Alliance

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The cities of the Haeoreum Alliance, including Ulsan, Pohang, and Gyeongju, will hold an event where they cross-donate hometown love donation funds to each other.

On the 18th at 9 a.m., Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom will donate funds to Pohang and Gyeongju using the hometown love e-um website in the mayor’s office on the 7th floor of the main building.

At the same time, Pohang Mayor Lee Kang-deok and Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-young will each donate to Ulsan and Gyeongju, and Ulsan and Pohang, respectively, from their own offices.

Why Did Ulsan Mayor Kim Du-gyeom, Pohang Mayor Lee Gang-deok, and Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-young Unite?

This donation event was organized to publicly promote mutual cooperation among the Haeoreum Alliance cities and to support the activation of the hometown love donation system in each region.

Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom said, “I hope today’s donation event will be an opportunity for many people, including citizens of Ulsan, Pohang, and Gyeongju, to sympathize with the purpose of the hometown love donation system and actively participate,” adding, “I expect that the early establishment of the hometown love donation system will help resolve difficulties faced by local cities such as population decline.”

Pohang Mayor Lee Kang-deok also said, “I hope the hometown love donation system will raise the public’s interest in their hometowns and contribute to local finances and economic revitalization through participation in hometown love donations.”

Mayor Joo Nak-young said, “I pray that the hometown love donation system will become a means for balanced development.”

The hometown love donation system, implemented since January 1 of this year, allows individuals to donate to their birthplace or a ‘second hometown’ with which they have a relationship through study, work, or travel. Local governments use the donations to improve residents’ welfare, and donors receive tax deductions and gifts as benefits.

Individuals who wish to donate can do so through the hometown love e-um website or by visiting one of the more than 5,900 NongHyup branches nationwide.
