[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province will provide a total of 200 million KRW as "holiday expenses" to 2,000 low-income vulnerable households in the area ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
On the 18th, Yongin City announced that it decided to support holiday expenses, anticipating that the household burden on vulnerable groups such as low-income families will increase further ahead of the holiday due to the ongoing high inflation trend.
The city will provide 100,000 KRW per household in cash. On the 19th, the city will deposit the amount collectively into the account of the head of each eligible household.
The support targets are low-income families within 120% of the median income, selected based on recommendations from welfare officers in each eup, myeon, and dong. The support funds were prepared from neighbor-helping donations contributed to the city last year and this year.
Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin City, said, "This support using neighbor-helping donations aims to help marginalized neighbors spend a warmer Lunar New Year holiday, even if just a little," and added, "We will continue to strive to minimize welfare blind spots through more detailed and thorough support."
