[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Jo] On the 18th, the National Police Agency announced that three candidates applied for the National Investigation Headquarters Chief career competitive recruitment exam, which oversees police investigations.
The applicants include two former police officers of the rank of Senior Superintendent or higher and one legal professional. The selection process proceeds according to the Police Act and the Police Officer Appointment Decree as follows: document screening → physical examination → comprehensive evaluation → recommendation by the Commissioner General of the National Police Agency → proposal by the Minister of the Interior and Safety → approval via the Prime Minister → appointment by the President. On the 26th of this month, all candidates who meet the eligibility criteria will pass the document screening. The physical examination involves submitting a 'Physical Examination Document for Public Official Recruitment' issued by a hospital to determine pass or fail.
The National Police Agency conducts a comprehensive evaluation of job performance capabilities for candidates who pass the document screening and physical examination and reports to the Commissioner General. Once the Commissioner General recommends one candidate, the Minister of the Interior and Safety and the Prime Minister review the recommendation before the President appoints the candidate. The new chief will succeed Nam Gu-jun, the inaugural chief who retires on the 25th of next month, and will lead the National Investigation Headquarters (Guksubon) until 2025.
