Complete Change Since 2017... Electric Vehicle Model-Based
Horizontal LED Lamp Design & Increased Interior Space
Gasoline 24.68 Million KRW · Hybrid 31.19 Million KRW
Electric Vehicle Launching in Q2 This Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] Hyundai Motor Company launched the new model of the compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) Kona on the 18th. It is the second-generation complete redesign model released after 5 years and 7 months since its first debut in 2017. The sales target for this year is set at about 37,000 units. The company expects that about 40% of these will be hybrid models.
The biggest difference from the existing Kona is the design. The new Kona is designed based on Hyundai's 3rd generation electric vehicle platform. The upper front part features Hyundai's next-generation signature lighting design, the horizontal LED lamp (Seamless Horizon Lamp). At the radiator grille location, a triangular garnish and skid plate are installed.
The interior space has also been expanded. Based on the increased overall length (4350mm) and wheelbase (2660mm), which are 145mm and 60mm longer respectively compared to the previous Kona, the rear legroom and shoulder room have been widened. The cargo space has increased by more than 30% to 723 liters.
Additionally, a 12.3-inch panoramic display and an electronic shift lever (column type) have been added. Wireless software updates (OTA) are supported, and the next-generation infotainment system ccNC (Connected Car navigation Cockpit) is equipped. Hyundai explains that safety has also been enhanced by applying features such as the Multi-Collision Brake (MCB) system.
The powertrain options include ▲Gasoline 1.6 Turbo ▲Gasoline 2.0 ▲Gasoline 1.6 Hybrid ▲and four electric vehicle variants. Prices vary depending on the trim levels: Modern, Premium, and Inspiration. For the Gasoline 2.0 model, the prices are 24.68 million KRW (based on 3.5% individual consumption tax, same below) for Modern, 26.90 million KRW for Premium, and 30.29 million KRW for Inspiration.
The 1.6 Turbo model is priced at 25.37 million KRW, 27.59 million KRW, and 30.97 million KRW respectively. The hybrid model starts from 31.19 million KRW, 32.97 million KRW, and 36.11 million KRW. The electric vehicle details will be disclosed in March, with a launch planned for the second quarter of this year.
Hyundai will begin delivering internal combustion engine models after the Lunar New Year holiday. Hybrid models will be delivered to customers after certification is completed. Jang Jaehoon, CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, said, "It will be the optimal choice for customers who enjoy diverse lifestyles and new challenges."
