Seoul City Activates Emergency Response System for Snow Forecast on the 17th

Snow Removal Level 1 Starting from 4 PM

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted that about 1cm of snow will fall in Seoul between the evening (18:00?21:00) and late night (21:00?24:00) on the 17th. Accordingly, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that from 16:00 on the same day, Seoul city, autonomous districts, and related organizations will enter an emergency duty system.

Snowfall signs are detected in advance through CCTVs installed along the snowfall path in the West Sea region. Before the snow clouds arrive in Seoul, de-icing agents will be pre-applied, and 4,893 personnel and 1,197 snow removal vehicles will be deployed to prepare for the snowfall.

De-icing boxes equipped with de-icing agents and snow shovels have been replenished in alleyways and steep slopes so that anyone can easily use them. Since about 1cm of snow is forecasted, citizens are also urged to participate in snow removal in front of their homes and stores.

Choi Jin-seok, Director General of Safety at Seoul City, said, “Seoul will mobilize all available personnel and equipment to fully commit to snow removal operations in preparation for the snowfall,” and added, “We ask citizens to refrain from using vehicles during snowfall and to use public transportation instead, and to be cautious of safety hazards such as slipping or falling accidents.”
