Samsung Seoul Hospital Achieves Highest Global Score in Digital Health Index at US Conference

Accelerating Digital Transformation
"Creating Global Standards"

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Samsung Medical Center announced on the 17th that it achieved a world record score of 365 out of 400 in the 'Digital Health Indicator (DHI)' survey conducted by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the world's largest medical informatics society.

The Digital Health Indicator survey assessed the degree of digital transformation in hospitals across four areas: governance and workforce, interoperability, personalized care support, and predictive analytics.

Samsung Medical Center achieved nearly 100% digital transformation scores in all areas. It scored 99% each in interoperability and predictive analytics, governance and workforce, and 98% in personalized care support.

As a result of this survey, Samsung Medical Center was recognized as the fastest hospital in the world accelerating digital transformation. The hospital is currently undergoing significant changes by introducing innovative services to become an 'Advanced Intelligent Hospital.'

A representative example is the 'DOCC (Data-based Operation & Communication Center).' DOCC is a system that links all available hospital resources?from patient rooms, operating rooms, and diagnostic equipment to medical staff?to a 'Digital Twin' virtual hospital, allowing real-time application of the hospital's current status to operate necessary resources promptly and appropriately. For instance, in blood sampling tests, when a surge of patients is anticipated, the virtual hospital simulation predicts this, enabling additional medical staff to be deployed during that time to reduce congestion.

Currently, more than 20 such digital twin systems are operating throughout the hospital, including CT scan rooms and operating rooms, enhancing the efficiency of medical care and operations. Lee Poong-ryeol, Director of the Digital Innovation Promotion Team (Professor of Gastroenterology), stated, "The fact that our digital transformation speed is the fastest and most advanced in the world means Samsung Medical Center is pioneering a path no one has taken before. We will do our best to ensure that the digital-based medical care created by Samsung Medical Center becomes the global standard and is recognized as the 'Global Standard' in the future world."
