London Active Police Officer Admits to 12 Sexual Crimes Over 20 Years
Rape, Illegal Detention... Also Used Position to Threaten
An active police officer has been confirmed to have committed a staggering 49 sexual offenses against 12 individuals over 20 years, shocking British society.
On the 16th (local time), major UK media outlets such as the BBC and The Guardian reported, "An elite London police officer has become one of the worst sex offenders in history." According to reports, David Carrick (48) of the London Police appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London on the same day and admitted to 49 sexual offenses against 12 victims, including 24 counts of rape (9 victims), 2 counts of attempted rape, and 3 counts of unlawful imprisonment. Most of the crimes occurred in Hertfordshire, where he lived, between 2003 and 2020.
Carrick reportedly gained trust by showing his police ID to women he met through dating apps and then used his position to threaten them, committing horrific abuse and sexual crimes. He raped the victims over extended periods ranging from several months to years. He controlled their clothing, diet, sleeping arrangements, and financial situations, even forbidding them from talking to their children.
His brutal crimes did not end there. Police investigations revealed that some victims were confined naked for hours in a cupboard smaller than a large doghouse under the stairs of his home, without food. He called the women slaves, assaulted them with belts, forced them to urinate, and subjected them to humiliating acts, inflicting severe mental and physical abuse. He exploited his position by threatening, "Even if you report me, everyone will only trust active police officers."

Carrick joined the Metropolitan Police Service in 2001 and, from 2009, served as an armed officer in the specialist unit (PaDP) responsible for the city’s parliament, government buildings, and diplomatic areas. It is reported that in 2020, while drinking with a woman at a pub, he boasted about being an armed officer nicknamed 'Bad Boy Dave' and a powerful figure protecting former Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
The revelation of this case has sparked widespread criticism of the police. Particularly, Carrick faced as many as nine allegations of sexual assault and other crimes between 2000 and 2021, yet was not apprehended, drawing severe condemnation. The police also allowed him to carry firearms even after his arrest on rape charges in July 2021, only suspending him after he was arrested and charged with another rape in October 2021.
Ultimately, Barbara Gray, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, apologized, saying, "We should have detected Carrick’s abusive behavior patterns but failed to do so, missing the opportunity to remove him from the organization. We sincerely regret that by allowing him to remain in the police force, we may have prolonged the suffering of the victims." The police are now proceeding with formal dismissal procedures against Carrick.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan described the case as "horrific and disgusting," stating, "There must be answers as to how he was able to abuse his position." A spokesperson for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak condemned Carrick’s crimes and expressed sympathy for the victims, emphasizing that "police officers who fall far short of the standards of conduct have no place in the force."
