[Asia Economy Reporter Jo Yujin] In response to the US and Japanese leaders criticizing China's actions that violate the international order, Chinese authorities fiercely condemned it as a 'farce of oppressing their own country.'
On the 16th, Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, criticized the joint statement released after the US-Japan summit at a regular briefing, saying, "Japan and the United States conspired to tarnish China's image, interfere in China's internal affairs, and stage a farce of suppressing China's development."
Spokesperson Wang said, "This is very hypocritical and also very dangerous," adding, "China firmly opposes this and has lodged stern representations with the relevant countries." 'Lodging stern representations' refers to protests made through diplomatic channels.

US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida held a summit at the White House on the 13th and agreed to strengthen the deterrence and response capabilities of the US-Japan alliance.
Sharing the common goal of containing China, the US-Japan leaders stated in the joint statement, "The Indo-Pacific faces increasing challenges ranging from China's actions that violate the rules-based international order to provocations by North Korea."
The statement also reiterated "the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait as an indispensable element for the security and prosperity of the international community," and added, "We encourage the peaceful resolution of cross-Strait (China and Taiwan) issues."
