[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The conservative Christian coalition, the Korea Christian Federation, has expressed its protest against the reversal of the broadcast ban on the song "It's OK to be me" by Lioness, an idol group representing sexual minorities. Previously, MBC had banned the song for including expressions of homosexuality combined with religious references, but at the end of last year, after a reexamination, it was deemed suitable for broadcast again.
The Korea Christian Federation took issue with two parts of the song. The first is: “I am a miracle, that rainbow after the rain is my tinnitus. If saving the world counts, my predecessor is Jesus. I am the moon brightly lit to illuminate the night, enduring the weight of the crown.” The second is: “I was designed as gay from the beginning. My Lord decided. Uh, Next one is, QUEEN ROOYA I am both the question and soon the answer.”
The Federation stated, “This song does not merely advocate homosexuality but also belittles Jesus Christ, whom the Christian church has believed as the Savior for thousands of years, by treating Him as merely a predecessor of the opposition, and presents the gay self as Jesus’s successor. By claiming that God designed and ordained them as gay, it distorts the doctrine that humans, created in God's image but fallen, are restored by grace, thereby mocking and insulting Christian faith.”
They also mentioned the “Anti-Discrimination Act.” The Korea Christian Federation said, “(If the ‘Anti-Discrimination Act’ is passed) there is a risk of facing civil and criminal penalties for discrimination against religious minorities,” and added, “If a comprehensive Anti-Discrimination Act were enacted and in effect, would it have even been possible to properly criticize the media broadcasting songs that praise homosexuality and blaspheme the sacred?”
