'Ecoplogging' Trash Collection and Illegal Burning Eradication Campaign
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Yoon-jung] The Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office held an 'Eco-Plogging Event' on the morning of the 16th at Sangdundeok Village, Jinrye-myeon, Gimhae-si, Gyeongnam, together with village residents, local governments, and green companies.
Plogging is an environmental movement that involves picking up trash while walking or running.
About 50 people participated in the event, including representatives from Gimhae-si, Jinrye-myeon, Sangdundeok Village, and local green companies such as LG Electronics Changwon Plant 1 and 2, Nongshim Noksan Plant, LS Electric, and Samsung Electro-Mechanics. They collected abandoned trash around the village and conducted a campaign to eradicate illegal burning.

Eco-Plogging is being piloted in four villages for three months from January as part of the 4th Fine Dust Seasonal Management Plan's measures to reduce fine dust in rural areas.
Eco-Plogging involves collaboration among village residents, local governments, and green companies to collect rural waste and separate agricultural waste for disposal. In the long term, it aims for proactive participation by village residents to eradicate illegal burning through the spread of practical activities.
In addition to Sangdundeok Village in Jinrye-myeon, Gimhae-si, the pilot operation includes four villages: Sinmyeong Village in Daedong-myeon, Jangjae Village in Ibang-myeon, and Sindang Village in Daehap-myeon, Changnyeong-gun.
Furthermore, the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office will conduct 'Village-level On-site Illegal Burning Prevention Education' from February to March, a vulnerable period for illegal burning, to reduce fine dust in rural areas.
Hong Dong-gon, head of the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office, said, "Reducing fine dust in rural areas depends on improving residents' awareness and spreading a culture of practice," adding, "I hope this Eco-Plogging event will serve as a catalyst for reducing fine dust and eradicating illegal burning in the rural areas of the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions."
