'My Own Special Small Wedding', Looking for Prospective Newlyweds!

Establishing a Rational Marriage Culture and Overcoming Low Birthrate Among the Youth Generation

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Pohang City is recruiting candidates for the 2023 Small Wedding Support Program to overcome low birth rates, promote a small wedding culture, and create a childbirth and childcare-friendly environment.

The Small Wedding Support Project is a program in which Pohang City and partner companies provide partial financial support for wedding expenses to prospective brides and grooms who avoid marriage due to the burden of high-cost weddings, offering them an opportunity to hold a wedding at a reasonable low cost.

The support includes 1.5 million KRW provided by the city and approximately 1 million KRW worth of goods from partner companies (Studio Ruda, Tiffany Wedding, Photopia), offering wedding venues, wedding setups, groom and bride attire, hair, makeup, bouquets, and more to help prospective couples hold their weddings without financial burden.

Applicants must be first-time engaged couples residing in Pohang as of the application date. A total of five couples will be selected. The total number of guests, including the bride, groom, and their families, must be 100 or fewer combined from both sides, and the wedding must align with the purpose of promoting small weddings and improving wedding culture. Photos taken during the wedding may be used for city promotional purposes.

This year, the support amount increased by 500,000 KRW compared to last year, and the guest limit was relaxed from 50 to 100 combined guests from both families to enhance service quality.

Applications for the Small Wedding program can be submitted by downloading the application form from the Pohang City website notice board and sending it via email.

Choi Myunghwan, Director of the Welfare Bureau, stated, “We expect that supporting small weddings for young people who cannot marry due to high-cost wedding culture will contribute to establishing a reasonable wedding culture,” and added, “We will continue to actively promote various projects to overcome low birth rates.”
