[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] On the 16th, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced that it has selected 45 private educational institutions as recipients of the 'Private School Audit Incentive Program,' which awards incentives to private schools that achieved excellent results in the previous year's operational evaluation.
This year, seven school foundations including Boseong Hakwon and Haeseong Hakwon, as well as 38 private schools such as Haeseong International Convention High School and Sungui Elementary School, were selected. Two school foundations and nine schools were designated as top-tier institutions, while the remaining foundations and schools were recognized as excellent institutions.
Institutions selected for the incentive program will, from March 1, 2023, to February 28, 2026, receive a reduced comprehensive audit period of three years. Top-tier institutions will have their comprehensive audit consulting period shortened to one day, while excellent institutions will see their comprehensive audit period reduced from four days to two days. Specific and service audits will be fully exempted.
However, if any institution causes social controversy during the incentive period, it may be excluded from receiving the incentive.
The Private School Audit Incentive Program was introduced and implemented by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education in 2021 to strengthen the public nature and accountability of private educational institutions. Institutions that receive excellent evaluations in administrative, financial, and academic operations from the previous year are selected as recipients of the incentive program.
