[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 16th that it will conduct special monitoring and crackdowns on environmental pollution activities during the Lunar New Year holiday until the 27th.

This initiative was launched to prevent illegal acts such as unauthorized discharge of pollutants during vulnerable periods, including negligence in managing and supervising pollutant-emitting businesses during the Lunar New Year holiday.

Before the Lunar New Year holiday, cooperation letters for self-inspection will be sent to pollutant-emitting businesses, and through prior publicity and guidance, illegal discharge activities and environmental pollution accidents will be prevented.

Then, from the 21st to the 24th during the holiday period, the province and city/county offices will operate a situation room to prepare for environmental pollution accidents. Special monitoring and crackdowns will be implemented by strengthening patrols in environmentally vulnerable areas such as industrial complexes, surrounding rivers, and water source systems.

For minor violations found during inspections, on-site corrective actions such as guidance will be taken, while serious violations and intentional habitual offenders will be strictly dealt with according to relevant laws, including administrative measures and prosecution.

Until the end of the holiday on the 27th, technical support will also be provided for small and vulnerable environmental management businesses to resume normal operations after long-term facility shutdowns.

Park Seungyoung, head of the Environmental Management Division of Jeonnam Province, said, “To prevent environmental pollution accidents that may occur during the Lunar New Year holiday, active cooperation from residents is necessary, including self-inspections of pollutant-emitting businesses and reporting of environmental pollution activities. We will do our best to ensure that residents spend the Lunar New Year holiday in a pleasant and safe environment.”
