This general meeting of professors is the first in the history of teacher training universities, where all professors from 12 national elementary teacher training universities nationwide will gather to have in-depth discussions focusing on "Plans for teacher training linking bachelor's and master's degrees (graduate school level) to strengthen future teacher competencies."

Recently, the Ministry of Education announced in the presidential work report that it will promote the introduction of professional graduate schools of education. There have been many discussions about the development of the training system, and Gyocheonghyeop has also conducted several policy studies to prepare its own plans, holding two education policy symposiums at the National Assembly and two internal symposiums last year.

This general meeting, which comprehensively discusses these achievements, is expected to greatly contribute to exploring a new path for teacher training in Korea and preparing development plans for the teacher training system.

The meeting will be chaired by President Kim Chang-won (Gyeongin National University of Education) and will proceed with a progress report on the restructuring of the teacher training system (President Park Pan-woo of Daegu National University of Education), a keynote presentation (President Lee Hyuk-gyu of Cheongju National University of Education), designated discussions, and open discussions.

The government is currently promoting a plan to change the teacher training institution system, centered on four-year institutions such as education colleges and teacher colleges, to a six-year professional graduate school of education system. The plan is to grant elementary, middle, and high school teacher certification after two years of study at a professional graduate school of education following graduation from a four-year general university. The aim is to cultivate creative and highly specialized talents.

Countries such as Germany, Italy, Ireland, Austria, France, Finland, and Switzerland are known to have teacher training institution programs exceeding four years in duration.

An official from Daegu National University of Education, preparing for the general meeting, said, "Intense online debates are expected regarding the government's introduction of professional graduate schools of education. It is anticipated that specific pros and cons opinions will pour in."
