The movie 'Avatar: The Way of Water' has topped the weekend box office for five consecutive weeks.

According to the Korea Film Council's integrated box office data on the 16th, 'Avatar: The Way of Water' attracted 392,188 viewers over the weekend (13th-15th), securing the number one spot at the box office. 'Avatar: The Way of Water' has maintained its position as the weekend box office leader for five consecutive weeks and held the number one spot at the North American box office. It earned $570.3 million (705.3 billion KRW) in North America and has achieved a global cumulative revenue of $1.912 billion (2.3531 trillion KRW), continuing its box office success. If this trend continues, it is expected to surpass $2 billion in global revenue for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. This corresponds to the break-even point revealed by director James Cameron.

Domestically, it is likely to become the second film to reach 10 million viewers following 'Avatar' (2009), which was the first foreign film to reach 10 million viewers and the highest-grossing foreign film in Korea. At this pace, it is expected to become this year's first 10 million viewer film around the Lunar New Year holiday next weekend.

In second place was the Japanese animation 'The First Slam Dunk,' which attracted 345,189 viewers. Released on the 4th, the film has accumulated 934,866 viewers and is close to surpassing 1 million. It was more popular than 'Avatar: The Way of Water' in Japan and has also received positive responses domestically by evoking nostalgia among viewers in their 30s and 40s.

In fourth place was the animation 'Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,' which attracted 69,822 viewers. The comedy 'Switch,' starring Kwon Sang-woo and Oh Jung-se, ranked fifth, 'Tonight, If This Love Disappears from the World' was sixth, and 'Owl' was seventh. 'Prince Charming' and 'Moon Man,' both released on the 11th, entered the rankings at ninth and tenth place, respectively.

The total number of viewers who visited theaters over the weekend was 1,301,028.
