Busan City Holds '2023 Busan Chulhyanginsa New Year Gathering'

Busan Must Thrive for Korea to Prosper!

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan City will hold a New Year's greeting meeting for expatriates from the metropolitan area with ties to Busan at 3 p.m. on the 16th at Lotte Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul.


This New Year's greeting meeting for expatriates, held for the first time in three years since COVID-19, is jointly hosted by the city, the city council, and the Chamber of Commerce. About 500 expatriates from the metropolitan area actively working in various fields such as politics, economy, society, culture, and media, including current and former members of the National Assembly from the Busan area, are expected to attend.

The theme of this New Year's greeting meeting was set as "Busan Must Live for Korea to Live!" to encourage active participation in Busan's development with pride in being a Busan person.


At today's event, key leaders from Busan, including Mayor Park Hyung-jun, City Council Chairman Ahn Seong-min, Chamber of Commerce Chairman Jang In-hwa, and Superintendent of Education Ha Yun-su, along with major business representatives from Busan's commercial sector, heads of Busan city departments and public institutions under the city, will come to Seoul to strengthen communication and cooperation with expatriates.


Since 2023 is the first year of a great leap forward toward "Busan, a city where people want to live again" and "Busan, a global hub city," Mayor Park will personally brief on the "Busan Future Vision."


Through the briefing, he will actively introduce Busan's strengths and future development prospects, and ahead of the on-site inspection for the 2030 World Expo by the International Bureau of Expositions scheduled in April, he will ask for the active cooperation and support of expatriates to create nationwide interest and a supportive atmosphere.


Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, "I am grateful for the efforts and passion of the senior and junior expatriates who represent Busan in various sectors of society and stand at the core of national development," adding, "We will do our utmost to host the 2030 Busan World Expo, which is an opportunity to raise national prestige, and I want to share the passionate excitement with expatriates and all Busan citizens the moment the hosting is confirmed at the end of this year."


The 2023 Busan Expatriates New Year's Greeting Meeting will proceed in the order of ▲pre-event conversation ▲themed performance ▲greetings from key guests ▲Busan Future Vision briefing ▲2030 Busan World Expo hosting wish ceremony ▲celebratory performance and group singing.


This event is a place where people with ties to Busan in the metropolitan area exchange well-wishes and unite their intentions for Busan's development. All attendees will participate in the 2030 Busan World Expo hosting wish ceremony to support the hosting of the 2030 Busan World Expo.
