[A Sip of a Book] I Got an Alien Sister

Some sentences encapsulate the entire content of the book itself, while others instantly reach the reader's heart, creating a connection with the book. We introduce such meaningful sentences excerpted from the book. - Editor's note

This work depicts the journey of alien sisters who begin after crash-landing on a remote planet during a family space trip. The story starts with the uneasy companionship between ‘Miso’ and her alien older sister ‘Yan.’ When a fellow alien couple dispatched to Earth dies in an accident, Yan adopts their daughter and becomes family. Later, during a trip with the four family members, an accident causes only the two sisters to fall onto a remote planet, which turns out to be Yan’s hometown, Ankinos. To escape the crash-landed planet and return to Earth, Miso and her sister Yan, who helps her, ultimately restore their strong sisterly bond. This is author Lee Jaemoon’s first SF full-length fairy tale.

[A Sip of a Book] I Got an Alien Sister

"Mom said she would cut off my allowance if I keep acting stubborn. It was Mom who unilaterally planned the family trip. When I suggested going, she always made excuses about being busy, but when Yan said she had never been there, who wouldn’t want to go?"

“Mom’s been holding back a lot since earlier.”

Who says that? That’s what I want to say. If anyone’s holding back, it’s me, a hundred times more than Mom. (p.21)

I admit it too. I’m being harsh to Yan. Even I think some parts are too much. But I have my reasons. Since Yan came, Mom and Dad haven’t paid me any attention. They only cared about whether Yan was adapting well to the new environment. Did Yan take all of Mom and Dad’s love? (p.26)

I wished I had an older sister since I was little. But meeting Yan in person made me uneasy. She was an older sister, but not the kind I had hoped for. I shouldn’t be prejudiced, but it wasn’t easy. Even her appearance was like that. Especially because of her protect skin, she had difficulty hearing and speaking, which made her seem somewhat clumsy. (p.27)

How many twelve-year-olds have to accept a peer as an older sister? At least, none at our school. Yan, the biggest uninvited guest in my life. Last year, I never imagined something like this would happen. Yan’s appearance shook my daily life precariously. (pp.29?30)

Crash hole? That’s nonsense. Crash holes are extremely unlikely to form, so encountering one during space travel is almost impossible. But no matter how low the possibility, if it happens to me, it becomes a 100 percent possibility. That’s how accidents happen. (p.39)
