[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will spend a total of 331.4 billion KRW this year to construct 32 public buildings. Among them, 15 buildings are targeted for completion this year.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Construction Headquarters announced on the 16th that it is promoting 32 public building construction projects with a total budget of 331.4 billion KRW this year, and plans to complete 15 sites, including the 'Gyeonggi Organic Industry Complex Center,' within the year.

The public buildings being constructed this year include ▲ Eco Farm Land Riding Horse Complex (Hwaseong) ▲ Namhansanseong History and Culture Center (Gwangju) ▲ Gyeonggi Medical Center Icheon Hospital Dormitory ▲ Gyeonggi Food Plaza (Suwon) ▲ Gunpo Fire Station Safety Experience Center ▲ 119 Safety Center ▲ Gyeonggi Organic Complex Center (Gwangju) ▲ African Swine Fever Precision Inspection Facility (Yangju) ▲ Unification Plus Center (Uijeongbu), among others.

Among these, the construction of the Namhansanseong History and Culture Center was a project promised when Namhansanseong was registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 2014. It is located in Sanseong-ri, Namhansanseong-myeon, Gwangju City, with a total floor area of 2,963㎡ and an investment of 24 billion KRW. Construction began in December 2021. As of the end of last year, the construction progress rate was 20.5%. The target completion date is August this year.

The 'Gyeonggi Organic Industry Complex Center,' which provides consumption, experience, and education services for eco-friendly agricultural products all at once, is also being constructed on a 5,250㎡ site in Gonjiam-eup, Gwangju City, with an investment of 16.5 billion KRW. Construction will start in April and is scheduled for completion in December.

The Hwaseong East Fire Station will be responsible for fire demand in the eastern region, including Hwaseong Dongtan New Town. It covers an area of 5,160㎡ in Yeongcheon-dong, with an investment of 21.4 billion KRW. Currently in the design phase, construction will begin in July and is expected to be completed by October 2025.

The Provincial Construction Headquarters plans to focus on building solid and safe public buildings together with residents throughout the project this year by utilizing technical advice from private experts from the early design stage through to completion to ensure safety and quality management.

In particular, emphasizing construction safety, regular safety inspections will be conducted to prepare for natural disasters such as winter (January), thaw season (March), and wind, flood, and heat waves (June to July), establishing a preemptive on-site response system. Additionally, on-site safety communication among construction stakeholders will be held at least once a month.

Lee Sung-il, Director of the Architectural Facilities Division at the Provincial Construction Headquarters, said, "Safety accidents mostly occur due to momentary negligence, so continuous management and safety education are necessary to keep construction workers vigilant at all times." He added, "As a public institution, we will take responsibility and strive to achieve the goal of zero accidents and zero disasters."
