President Moon Opens Book Cafe... Policy Meeting Sajaejae Launches This Week

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Former President Moon Jae-in is reportedly opening a book cafe near Pyeongsan Village in Yangsan, Gyeongnam. It is said that the space, where visitors to Pyeongsan Village can read books and drink tea, will open soon.

Even after his retirement, former President Moon continues to recommend books through Facebook. On the 3rd, he introduced the book "Tree Lessons" to welcome the new year, and in November last year, he introduced the book "Good Inequality," which is about the minimum wage increase policy implemented during his term.

People who served as senior aides and ministers in the Moon Jae-in administration are officially launching a forum called 'Sa-uijae' (四宜齋) this week, which researches Democratic Party policies.

Sa-uijae will hold its founding press conference at 11 a.m. on the 18th at the Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, to announce its founding purpose and future plans. The forum's name was taken from the place where Dasan Jeong Yak-yong lived during his exile in Gangjin, Jeonnam. The permanent representative is former Minister of Health and Welfare Park Neung-hoo, who served during the early COVID-19 period. Former Minister of Gender Equality and Family Jeong Hyun-baek and former Chairman of the Presidential Policy Planning Committee Jo Dae-yeop are listed as co-representatives.

The chairperson of the steering committee is former Blue House Senior Secretary for Civil Society Bang Jeong-gyun. The forum is divided into four subcommittees: politics and administration, economy and jobs, society, and diplomacy and security. The forum expressed its ambition to correct baseless slanders and distortions about Moon Jae-in administration policies and to prepare policy alternatives based on the experience and lessons of national governance.

In political circles, there is also a view that Sa-uijae will serve as a rallying point for the pro-Moon faction within the Democratic Party in the future and will check the current mainstream pro-Lee Jae-myung faction.
