[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Sung-wook] A disturbance caused by a customer dissatisfied with a product, who damaged a display stand at a department store in Seoul, has become a controversial issue. The customer uploaded a 2-minute and 45-second video of the incident on their YouTube channel, but instead of sympathy, the video received critical comments.
The incident unfolded as follows. On the afternoon of the 13th, customer A visited the shoe store on the 5th floor of a department store in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, to raise a complaint about a product. A first entered the customer service office and asked an employee, "Is the person in charge here?" When the employee replied, "Which person in charge?" A said, "Was there no handover? I'll just go upstairs and cause a scene," and then left the office.
Taking the elevator to the shoe store, A verbally abused the store staff, saying, "Hey, don’t call me now. Talk to me in writing. Try calling me one more time. Do I have to put up with part-timers’ attitudes and spend money like this? Can't I even spend 50 million won as I please?" He continued to curse and was unable to control his anger.
A claims that the reason for his anger was that he bought genuine shoes but received counterfeit ones. He filmed the entire process and posted it on YouTube. However, the video attracted critical comments, and A in turn criticized the netizens. When one netizen pointed out, "I watched this live while shopping. You destroyed all the products and fixtures in the store. Was there no injury? No matter how angry you are, what crime did the employees and shoppers commit?" A responded, "Even if you get counterfeit goods, you can’t say a word, and I hope your family lives like beggars for life like you."

Photos of the incident were posted on an online community. In the photos, A is lying barefoot in front of the store wearing a pink dress. The shoe store’s product display stands are toppled, and shoes are scattered on the floor. The netizen who posted the photos wrote, "She said the shoes were uncomfortable, so she overturned and destroyed all the fixtures in the shoe store and lay down." Other netizens criticized A’s rampage, calling it "a nuisance" and "a public disturbance."
Additionally, a person claiming to be the manager of the affected store posted about the incident on the community. He stated, "The brand mentioned is completely unrelated to the store in the photos," and explained, "The incident started with an allegation of selling counterfeit products, but among domestic handmade shoe brands, there is no brand that produces and sells 'replicas' as commonly known. There is no merit in doing so." He added, "The claim that counterfeit products were sold, which A mentions, is about someone else entirely unrelated to us. If we had deceived customers and sold counterfeit goods, I could be held responsible. However, I reiterate that we have never sold counterfeit products."
The department store said it is awaiting the investigation results as the related store has reported the matter to the police. A department store official stated, "A’s claim that the store sold counterfeit shoes is one-sided," and added, "A recently bought shoes from brand C and got angry during the after-sales service process. However, on YouTube, he suddenly claims that brand B is selling counterfeit products."
