Opposition: "The real person who should be dismissed is Lee Sang-min," says Yoon who dismissed Na Kyung-won

"He is holding his position because he is known as Yoon's close aide"

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] The opposition party has responded to the dismissal of former lawmaker Na Kyung-won from her positions as Vice Chair of the Low Birthrate and Aging Society Committee and as Climate Ambassador by stating, "The person President Yoon Suk-yeol really needs to dismiss is Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min."

Oh Young-hwan, the floor spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea, said in a written briefing on the 15th, "Even though former lawmaker Na expressed her intention to resign, she was dismissed instead of having her resignation accepted. Truly a cowardly president," expressing this view.

This reiterated the need for the government to take dismissal action against Minister Lee, who is the person most responsible for the Itaewon tragedy.

Regarding Minister Lee, he criticized, "As the minister in charge, he failed to prevent the October 29 tragedy that claimed 159 lives, and even resorted to lying to evade responsibility for the disaster. Yet, because he is considered President Yoon's close confidant, he still clings to his position," he said.

He continued, "The people President Yoon holds accountable are only those who are on the opposite side or suspected to be on the opposite side of President Yoon," and pointed out, "He seems to mistakenly believe that a president's virtue is to protect his own people no matter how grave their mistakes are or how strong the public's demand for their dismissal is."

He added, "The bigger problem is that President Yoon is trying to divide South Korea into 'my side' and 'your side,'" and said, "I hope President Yoon stops divisive politics and dismisses Minister Lee, who is responsible for the tragedy."
