Dynamic Growth, Creating a New Trend in Semiconductor Materials Business
New Name Reflecting Commitment, Officially Introduced This Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] SKC's semiconductor materials business investor SKC Solmix has changed its name to 'SK enpulse' and is embarking on a new leap as a 'global semiconductor ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) solutions company.'
The new official name SK enpulse, changed from SKC Solmix this year, combines the English prefix "en," meaning "to enable," and "pulse," which signifies flow and wave. It embodies the will to become a dynamically growing company and create a new flow in the semiconductor materials industry.
SK enpulse is a core investor in SKC's semiconductor materials business and has led the localization of fine ceramic materials in the semiconductor field through over 30 years of accumulated research and development. Since becoming a subsidiary of SKC in 2008, it has rapidly executed business model (BM) innovation by entering high value-added semiconductor materials new businesses such as CMP pads and blank masks.
SK enpulse plans to accelerate growth in new businesses under its new name. CMP pads are materials used to planarize the surface of semiconductor wafers, increasing semiconductor integration density. SK enpulse is experiencing rapid growth, establishing itself as a main supplier to SK Hynix and DB HiTek in the CMP pad market, which was previously dominated over 80% by the global chemical company DuPont.
Blank masks are materials that serve as the canvas in the photolithography process, which draws ultra-precise circuits at the nanometer scale during semiconductor manufacturing. SK enpulse attracted significant attention from the semiconductor industry last year by successfully localizing high-end blank masks, a market where Japanese companies hold over 90% share.
Following the name change, SK enpulse completed a merger with SK Telesys in February this year to accelerate growth in the semiconductor business. Furthermore, it is promoting a transformation from the existing "leading company in semiconductor materials and components localization" to a new identity as a "global semiconductor ESG solutions company," focusing on ESG management and global expansion.
An SK enpulse official said, "We introduced the new name in line with SKC's semiconductor materials business direction and new identity," adding, "We will transform into a company centered on high value-added semiconductor materials business and achieve a corporate value of 1.5 trillion KRW by 2025."
